Over a year ago, Greenday had the pleasure of providing plants and planters for an exciting project led by the University of Nicosia, in collaboration with several universities worldwide. The initiative aims to study how the presence of plants impacts students’ wellbeing during classes, as well as indoor air quality.
The early results are promising. They confirm what plant enthusiasts have known for ages: greenery boosts mood, purifies the air, regulates humidity, and even reduces noise levels — all contributing to a healthier, more pleasant learning environment.
Hands-On Plant Workshops for Students
On March 17, 2026, we will host a special workshop for 100 students at the University of Nicosia. The activity is designed to be interactive: each participant will have the opportunity to train their own Plant Hero.
Students will work with three plant types:
- Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily) – Recognized for its elegant white blooms and lush green leaves. Thrives in bright, indirect light and tolerates occasional watering mistakes, making it perfect for Cyprus offices and classrooms.
- Dypsis lutescens (Areca Palm) – A tropical favorite with feathery fronds. Prefers bright light and regular watering. Its resilience and air-purifying qualities make it ideal for indoor environments.
- Chlorophytum comosum (Spider Plant) – Slender green leaves with white stripes, producing charming offshoots. Very easy to care for, tolerant of dry indoor air, and perfect for large or shared spaces.

Tips for Training Your Plant Hero
We prepared a few key principles for the students to help them keep their Plant Heroes healthy and thriving:
- Super Soil Mix – Use breathable soil such as potting mix, bark, perlite, coconut fiber, or moss to allow roots to breathe.
- Root Vision Mode – Clear pots let you observe root health and respond to your plant’s needs.
- Water by Need, Not by Clock – Always check the soil and water only when it dries out, preventing overwatering and root damage.
These same principles can be applied to almost any indoor plant. Caring for greenery is a fun and engaging adventure. Learning to understand a plant’s behavior ensures healthy, vibrant foliage and maximizes all the benefits that indoor plants bring to offices, classrooms, or home spaces.
This workshop combines science, hands-on experience, and a little creativity — helping students discover that taking care of plants is both an art and a science. By training their Plant Hero, each student gains skills that translate into happier, healthier spaces, a better understanding of nature, and the joy of nurturing living greenery.
